Presentation info:
This session will explore the essential role of nutrition and hydration in managing the multifaceted needs of individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Participants will review how nutritional needs evolve across the disease continuum, from early weight loss to advanced dysphagia, and how tailored interventions can improve quality of life and potentially impact clinical outcomes. Practical evidence-based strategies will be presented to address common barriers to adequate intake, including eating fatigue, meal timing constraints, and swallowing difficulty. Patient perspectives will be shared following a case scenario concept with the participation of a person living with ALS. The importance of an interdisciplinary approach and collaborative care will be highlighted.
